Remodeling projects involve the changing of form of the structure whether it be a single room or an entire building.  Gutting the inside by demolishing walls, adding new walls, raising ceilings or increasing the size of the rooms, you have entered in to a Remodeling project.  

As you can imagine, a Remodeling project is the more expensive route to take because it requires more labor, more materials and more oversight.  Anything newly added structurally is considered a type of Remodel. If nothing is original and nothing is being renewed the project is no longer considered a restoration or renovation, it advances into the Remodeling project.

One of the big differences between Remodeling and Restoration is that Remodeling projects generally factor in new replacement materials and are not concerned with maintaining historic authenticity, Restoration on the other hand, may very well mandate the maintaining of historic authenticity.  Knowing ahead of time the parameters of what your project will entail is essential.
