About Us
JK Contracting, Inc. is a full-service management and contracting company. The owners, Kieran Whelan & Judy McGrady have over 75 years of combined experience in the Contracting and Business professions. We are strongly driven by referrals, as we place the highest emphasis on integrity and quality in our management style of projects. We maintain the highest quality construction practices and have established an excellent reputation in the long-lasting relationships we have built with our customers, vendors, town officials, and other trade contractors.
Our Team
Kieran Whelan
Kieran Whelan is licensed as both a Construction Supervisor and as a Home Improvement Contractor in the state of Massachusetts. Kieran has more than 40 years of experience in the construction industry ranging from house painting & roofing in the early 1970’s to full and complete management and construction of renovation, restoration and renewal projects. Currently, Kieran has spent the last 10 years renovating and restoring a 23-acre old Mill Factory campus on the North Shore.
Over these years, the range of projects we provide have continued to expand to encompass a wide range and diverse cross-section of industries from residential renovation/remodel projects including single/multi-family units to Condominiums, to real estate developers, commercial restaurants, professional services offices, technical facilities, educational facilities, medical & animal care facilities, to film production offices.
For JK Contracting, the customer is our lifeline and their satisfaction is imperative. Offering complete construction management services for both residential and commercial projects allows us to provide our customers with a comprehensive and interactive understanding of their project during each phase until the project is complete. Kieran’s attention to detail from the acquisition of proper permitting to the scheduling of each phase of your project is managed to completion with the utmost of professionalism, quality and care.
Judy McGrady
Judy brings over 35 years of accounting, finance, human resource and administrative experience to JK Contracting, LLC. Judy received her Undergraduate degree from the University of Massachusetts and her Masters in Accounting and Finance from the University of Southern New Hampshire. From a very young age, Judy fell in love with accounting and started off her budding career in business reconciling bank statements for a local merchant in her home town of Guilford, CT. After working a few years after college in Connecticut, Judy moved to Boston, MA in 1981 where she started working for an engineering/surveying firm, Boston Survey Consultants, Inc., (now The BSC Group) as their bookkeeper.
In 1987, Judy left the BSC Group and went to work for Gunther Engineering, Inc. and remained there until that business was sold in 2006. During this time Judy was the controller of the firm, maintaining all accounting, human resource and administrative functions. As this was a large scale engineering firm working primarily with architectural firms and large scale general construction firms, the projects maintained ranged from $25,000 to the exorbitant final cost of the Central Artery Tunnel project (High millions to low billions). Accounting for these large scale project required a very detailed job costing process and project tracking/reporting. Throughout this tenure Judy helped create and design the customized project management software along with a detailed job costing module to facilitate detailed billings and profitability by project.
